מַטַּטְרוֹן(מִיטַּ׳) pr. n. (= מטרטרון, redupl. of נטר, v. מַטָּרָא) (Chief of the Service, Mattatron (Mittatron), name of the chief of the angels (corresp. to שר הפנים). Targ. Y. I Gen. 5:24 מי׳ ספרא רבא M., the chief recorder.Snh.38b (ref. to Ex. 24:1, cmp. Targ. Y. a. l.) זה מ׳וכ׳ that is M. whose name is like that of his master (with ref. to Ex. 23:21, cmp. Rashi a. l.). Ḥag.15a חזא מט׳וכ׳ Ms. M. (ed. repeatedly מי׳) saw M. to whom permission was given to be seated while writing down Ab. Zar.3b איבעית אימא מט׳ Ms. M. (ed. מי׳) if you choose, say it was M. (that instructed the children). Lam. R. introd. (R. Joḥ. 1) בא מ׳ ונפלוכ׳ M. came and fell upon his face. Sifré Deut. 338 (read:) באצבעו היה מ׳ מראהוכ׳ with his (Moses) finger Metatron pointed out to Moses ; Yalk. ib. 949 (v. מִיטָטוֹר). (Gen. R. s. 5, v. מִיטָטוֹר.
